Coffee and a Lower Liver Cancer Risk

A large prospective, population-based study reported an inverse relationship between coffee consumption and liver cancer risk — more coffee, lower risk. The same work noted that higher blood levels of gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), a liver enzyme marker, were tied to greater risk. The cohort was sizeable (tens of thousands of Finnish adults, a population that drinks more coffee per capita than most).

Why it matters: moderate coffee keeps turning up as protective for the liver in observational research — a small, everyday habit worth knowing about.
